Music Recording Studios in the Stockholm Area

Looking to find top music studios? Here you can find your Stockholm studio! This list of studios only contains professional music recording studios in the Stockholm area. If there is a studio that should be added or excluded, let us know.

These are the best studios in Stockholm, in our view. The studios included all have:

  • professional equipment
  • experienced people
  • excellent international artists references

Studios are listed in alphabetic order without any ranking in between them. The music studio list is intended as a rough studio guide, check the web sites to find out more about each studio. Most studios do not belong to one music genre only. Not all studios accept pure studio lease, since the studios are used for their own productions. Those music studios that do not have links are typically studios that have changed names, moved or closed. Check the mentioning of which studio the people involved have continued to.

The longevity of recording studios varies. Soundism music studios have been operating under the same name and with the same music producers and songwriters for many years. Soundism has successfully been in the studio business through its many dynamic changes. While the studio facility once known as the EMI studio still exists, its name and owners have changed many times during the same period. Its name and ownership have changed from Cosmos, to X-Level, to Baggpipe, and then to Immersive.

Polar Music Studios

First named Polar Music Studios, later Polar Studios. Recorded ABBA and others. This was a state of the art music studio that opened in May 1978, in the former movie theater Riviera. It was one of the best music studios in the world at the time. It featured a room-in-room design and allowed recording strings at the same time as horn, without sound leaks between the rooms. It was a relatively new type of studio design that was based on the ideas of Tim Hidley (Eastlake Audio) and developed further in Stockholm. After some years, an addition was made with an upstairs B-studio. From 1983, the studio was run by Lennart Östlund, Marie Ledin (daughter of Sikkan Andersson and now at Polar Music Prize) and her husband Thomas Ledin. The original studio closed in 2004 after the landlord doubled the rent. The digitalization of music recording also already had an impact on the overall studio industry. [Note: A different studio opened in 2008 with a similar name in another part of Stockholm, operated by Lennart Östlund. He was a sound engineer and later music producer at the original Polar Studio].
